HYDERABAD: Google afficonadoes in India can look forward to Google's new smartphone Nexus One by the middle of this year.
Google which is all set to cement its place in the mobile phone business announced the marketing of the smartphone Nexus One, which comes with its in-house Andriod OS and is manufactured by HTC.
Nexus One will come with use full VOIP service which means that voice calls will go through Google Voice on Data SIM cards and will provide unlimited free voice calling.
It also has some interesting features like the ability to transcribe voice to text, noise canceling dual microphones that cuts out external noises and GPS guided turn-by-turn voice directions to drivers.
The phone features a 5 megapixel auto-focus camera with LED flash and digital zoom, Bluetooth 2.1 and WiFi capabilities.
The Snapdragon processor allows for many advanced capabilities including 720p video playback.
The microSD card slot allows expansion up to 32 GB of card storage. Applications can only be installed to the 512 MB internal flash memory, of which 190 MB are available for that purpose. However Google may eventually lift this restriction after addressing security issues.
In February Google also announced an over-the air update for the Nexus One, the pinch-to-zoom functionality to the web browser, gallery, and maps applications.
The Nexus One is thinner than the iPhone and can be easily synchronized with all Google applications, such as Gmail, Google Contacts and Google Calendar.
The phone was launched in the US in January this year. The unlocked version is priced at $529 while the one with a T-Mobile plan with a two-year contract is available for $179.
It is expected to be launched in India by mid-2010. But Indian consumers have to be content with a pared down version as the company is looking at a toned down version for developing markets like India and Russia.
For those in a hurry to possess one, Nexus One is available unofficially in India, online, for around Rs 27,000.
