HYDERABAD: Ocimum Biosolutions, an integrated genomics company with operations in India, US and the Netherlands, on Wednesday launched 'Pioneers in Genomics Education - Class of 2010' program aimed at fostering industry-academia interaction.
First to be launched in India by Ocimum, the program provides cutting-edge genomic tools and technologies to the budding researchers from key institutions, the company said in a release. It also aims to serve as a model of cross-academic and cross-industry exchange of knowledge and ideas.
Anu Acharya, CEO, Ocimum Biosolutions, said: "There is an opportunity for all of us to make a positive difference to the educational framework. This is going to happen when the industry takes a leadership role in identifying key stakeholders involved in cross-disciplinary life science education."
“The Pioneers in Genomics Education Program is an effort towards achieving this. Through this program, we are creating affordable access by opening up our widely used products to educational efforts through key stalwarts involved in life science education," she added.
The Program envisages bringing cutting-edge industry genomics applications and tools into educational curriculum as a way to reduce gaps between industrial discovery and basic research.
It seeks to do so by giving affordable access to cutting edge bioinformatics tools to current and future researchers and scientists in industry and academia, and by creating a network and facilitate collaboration between participants of this Program.
