HYDERABAD: Sanvei Overseas, an IT system integrator, has bagged the demo contract to set up surveillance at different checkposts for Commercial Taxes Department, Tamil Nadu.

The contract will enable check pilferage and record the entry of all the commercial vehicles for ensuring proper tax collections.

Initially, the contract is for 11 locations for which pilot runs have begun. The Commercial Taxes Department of Tamil Nadu has given the mandate of technical and financial evaluation of the contract to ELCOT, the nodal agency of the Government.

The entire project will be based on IP CCTV cameras and video analysis, whereby using face recognition and number plate recognition, details of drivers and vehicles can be done and  integrated with other applications to estimate the tax revenue and match the tax collection challans with the vehicular traffic.

After the pilot run, video surveillance will be extended to all the commercial checkposts across Tamil Nadu.

Sanvei has already bagged some large projects from Elcot  as well as from premier Central Government organizations.

"The Commercial Tax Department in Tamil Nadu has decided to use video surveillance to keep a tap and increase tax collection at the state commercial checkposts. It is also expected that this will be a key step in IT enablement of government departments beyond central offices," said A Jayaprakash, General Manager, Sanvei.
