HYDERABAD: In a day of mixed fortunes for Karnataka Chief Minister Yeddyurappa, the Governor recommended President's rule in the State despite the ruling BJP winning the confidence motion in the floor of the assembly on Monday. The Governor imposed President's rule terming the disqualification of the 16 rebel BJP and independent MLAs as 'unethical'.
BS Yeddyurappa who spent an anxious weekend trying to keep his flock of MLAs together won the trust vote on Monday morning through a voice vote. But the victory came only after the Speaker disqualified the 16 rebel BJP MLAs, which was followed by chaotic scenes in the House of the Assembly.
But the Karnataka Governor HR Bhardwaj, who was also the Union Law Minister in the UPA Government earlier, recommended President’s Rule in the state terming the disqualification of Independent MLAs as unethical and wrong. The situation in the state was right for President Rule, according to the Governor's report.
The disqualified MLAs, including 11 from the BJP and five independents, meanwhile, have challenged the decision of the Speaker in the Karnataka High Court. The case would be heard by the Court on Tuesday.
Former Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy of the Janata Dal (Secular) party demanded the dismissal of the BJP Government since the Speaker's position was misused.
Yeddyurappa, after 'winning' the trust vote, had demanded the immediate removal of Governor H R Bharadwaj stating that he couldn't work with him.
